The Atto 3 is BYD's foothold in India — a 5-seater compact electric SUV that's been on sale longer than any other BYD model in the country, and remains one of only two BYD models fully homologated for the Indian market. It's aimed squarely at urban families and EV-focused buyers who want genuine range and tech without stepping into performance-sedan pricing.
"Dragon Face" design and a screen that spins
The Atto 3 follows BYD's "Dragon Face 3.0" design language — slim LED headlamps, a floating grille, and sculpted side panels that give it a distinctive silhouette in a segment full of fairly conventional-looking SUVs. BYD's Blade Battery is built from lithium iron phosphate cells arranged to double as a structural component of the car itself — a design BYD says improves both safety and rigidity compared to conventional battery packs.
Variant by variant
Runs the smaller 49.92 kWh pack for a 468 km claimed range, but still comes with 7 airbags (including a driver far-side bag), the full 12.8-inch rotating touchscreen, a panoramic sunroof, electric tailgate, and V2L (vehicle-to-load) mobile power output — a genuinely generous base-trim feature list.
Steps up to the larger 60.48 kWh battery, extending range to 521 km and improving the 0-100 km/h sprint to 7.3 seconds. Ventilated front seats were added as part of a 2025 model-year update.
Adds Level 2 ADAS on top of everything in the Superior trim — the only Atto 3 variant offering BYD's driver-assistance suite in India.

Reviewers consistently describe the Atto 3 as tuned for comfort over sportiness — light steering, smooth power delivery with no gear shifts to interrupt momentum, and a soft suspension that handles minor road imperfections well, though sharper potholes still register. On the highway, it stays stable and composed particularly between 100-120 km/h, with good cabin insulation limiting wind and tyre noise. The main genuine criticism across reviews: no ventilated or cooled seats were offered at this price point until the 2025 update finally added them — a notable gap for Indian climate conditions before that fix arrived.
Who it competes with
The Atto 3 sits against the Hyundai Creta Electric, Mahindra BE 6, MG ZS EV, and increasingly VinFast's own VF6 — a segment that's gotten considerably more crowded since the Atto 3's original India launch.
