The reason, in retrospect, is straightforward: Audi was waiting for its platforms to catch up. In 2026, they finally have.
The PPE — Premium Platform Electric — is the architecture shared with the Porsche Macan Electric, and it underpins the two most important Audi India launches of the year: the A6 e-tron Sportback and the Q6 e-tron. Alongside those, a completely new generation Q3 and a redesigned Q5 bring fresh hardware to the brand's bread-and-butter SUV lineup. It adds up to the most consequential Audi India launch calendar in several years.

New Audi Q3 — The Volume Car Gets a Full Redesign
The Q3 has always been Audi's most accessible entry point in India, and the third-generation model is the most significant upgrade the nameplate has ever received. It's slightly larger than its predecessor, locally assembled (which keeps the price competitive), and arrives with a noticeably more confident design: high-set LED DRLs with customisable light signatures, a hexagonal grille with the Audi logo doubling as the ADAS radar cover, and an optional active suspension that keeps the body flat in corners and raises itself for easier entry and exit. Expected from around ₹48 lakh, it competes directly with the BMW X1 and Mercedes GLA.
New Audi Q5 — Built for Indian Roads, Third Time Around
The Q5 is Audi's best-selling model globally, and the third-generation version has been completely redesigned on the new PPC (Premium Platform Combustion) architecture — a significant upgrade that enables more advanced electronics and more efficient powertrains. The cabin introduces Audi's "Digital Stage" — a wide-screen interface that spans the dashboard. Engine options are expected to include a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol producing around 265 hp and, importantly for India, a 2.0-litre TDI diesel at ~204 hp that long-distance luxury buyers have come to depend on. Expected around ₹70 lakh, launching against the BMW X3 and Mercedes GLC.
Audi A6 e-tron — The Most Aerodynamic Audi Ever Built
The A6 e-tron is the second PPE-platform Audi after the Q6 e-tron, and it's the one that makes the strongest design statement. A sloping roofline and body-coloured grille give it the most organic, aerodynamically optimised shape Audi has ever put into production. Inside, a trio of screens spans the full width of the dashboard. Battery options include 83 kWh and 100 kWh units, with the larger offering a dual-motor AWD setup. Only the Sportback (sedan) body style is expected to come to India — not the Avant estate. Expected pricing around ₹1 crore, with a likely H2 2026 launch window.
The Q6 e-tron and what comes after

The Q6 e-tron is the first PPE-platform car in India, and it arrives with a fully redesigned interior — a twin panoramic screen setup for driver and passenger, with a separate third screen for the rear. Expected around December 2026 at ~₹1 crore, it places Audi directly against the BMW iX3 and Mercedes EQC in what is rapidly becoming the most contested segment in Indian luxury EVs.
Also in the pipeline: the e-tron GT facelift, Audi's electric performance four-door that has quietly become one of the better fast EVs on sale. The facelift brings updated styling and revised range figures. And on the horizon — not confirmed for India yet but heavily anticipated — is the Q9, Audi's new flagship SUV that would sit above the Q8 and redefine the brand's range ceiling.
The honest read on Audi's position heading into 2026: it enters the year as the third-ranked German brand in India by volume, behind BMW and Mercedes, and with more ground to make up on EVs than either rival. The PPE platform changes the story structurally — it gives Audi genuinely competitive electric hardware for the first time — but the brand needs to tell that story clearly. The Q3 will drive the numbers. The A6 e-tron and Q6 e-tron will drive the perception. Both matter.
