At the start of 2026, BMW Group India's president Hardeep Singh Brar sat down with the press and said something that sounded almost too bold: "2026 is a very big year for us." Six all-new models. Four major overhauls. Seventeen special editions and model-year updates. Twenty-seven product actions, total, in a single calendar year. For a market that not long ago treated luxury cars as a niche for the ultra-wealthy, it's a statement of intent that's hard to dismiss.
The context matters. BMW sold 18,001 cars in India in 2025 — up 14% year-on-year. Q1 2026 accelerated that: 4,567 deliveries, 17% growth over the same quarter last year. The electric numbers inside those figures are the real story. One in every four BMW Group cars sold in India now runs on electricity. EV sales hit 1,185 units in Q1 alone — up 83% from the previous year.

Three of the six new models will be electric, and BMW already holds a 70% share of India's luxury EV segment. The brand isn't just participating in the shift to electric — it's been leading it, and 2026 is the year it doubles down.
The cars that matter
BMW iX3 — The First of a New Era
The iX3 is more than a new car — it's BMW's first production vehicle built on the Neue Klasse platform, the architecture that will underpin the brand's next 40 models by 2027. It brings sixth-generation eDrive technology, an 800V electrical system enabling 400 kW peak charging (roughly 175 miles added in 10 minutes), and a completely redesigned interior anchored by the new BMW Panoramic iDrive with an AI-powered assistant running on Amazon Alexa+ technology. Expect a starting price in the ₹75–85 lakh range once confirmed for India.
BMW iX Facelift — 701 km Between Charges
The iX was already BMW's electric flagship in India. The 2026 facelift refreshes the exterior lighting, upgrades the battery, and pushes the claimed range to 701 km on a full charge — enough to drive Mumbai to Goa with capacity to spare. It's confirmed as one of three electric launches BMW has committed to for India this year.
BMW i5 Long Wheelbase — Built in Chennai
The i5 LWB is the most India-specific car on this list. It's assembled at BMW's Chennai plant, making it one of the very few locally produced luxury EVs in the country. The extended rear cabin is built for being driven in rather than driving — which is exactly how most buyers in this segment use their cars. With 340 hp and a price around ₹1 crore, it targets the executive saloon segment that has long been dominated by diesel-powered flagships.
Performance: M2 CS and the road to electric M

Not everything is about range and charging curves. The BMW M2 CS arrived in India in Q1 2026 at ₹1.66 crore ex-showroom — limited numbers, no waiting list accommodations, and aimed squarely at people who want the last truly analogue M car before electrification takes over. It's already sold out in most markets.
Further out, the BMW M3 is confirmed as an upcoming India launch. And beyond that, BMW has confirmed an all-electric M3 built on the Neue Klasse platform — the same architecture as the iX3 — which means the performance division's transition to electric is no longer a question of if, only when. BMW's bet is that by the time it arrives, the platform will have proven itself convincingly enough that buyers won't feel they're making a compromise.
Infrastructure and reach
BMW has expanded its public charging network in India to over 6,000 points — a figure that took years to build and that competitors will struggle to replicate quickly. It's a moat, and the brand knows it.
Retail expansion is the other lever. BMW plans to enter 10 new cities in 2026, taking the network beyond the traditional metro strongholds. Cities like Indore, Lucknow, Kochi, and Chandigarh are increasingly viable luxury markets as rising incomes create demand outside the obvious places.

By any measure, BMW enters the second half of 2026 looking less like a brand trying to grow and more like one consolidating a lead it has spent years building carefully. The X5 refresh and confirmed iX3 India pricing are the next things to watch — both expected before year-end. If those land well, the double-digit growth Brar called a "bare minimum" will look like an understatement.
